BACnet certification for variable-speed drives

Control Techniques’ Affinity AC variable-speed drives designed specifically for the HVAC sector have been granted European BACnet certification. The approval by the BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL) confirms that this drive meets the most recent BACnet standard, ISO16484-5:1007. The demand for the BTL mark from building owners and consultants is rapidly increasing, and it is becoming a standard requirement for many project tenders.

The Affinity range, 1.1 to 132 kW, is available to IP20 (NEMA 1) or IP54 (NEMA) standard. They have no schedule maintenance requirements and operates seamlessly with building-management systems.

Other protocols include Metasys N2 and Modbus RTU. Simple click-in modules give connection to specialised communications such as LonWorks, Ethernet, DeviceNet and Profibus.

Using a client/server request model, BACnet provides the format and commands for discovering and controlling systems such as heating, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, fire and security. BACnet can be run over Ethernet, Arcnet, LonWorks and other network topologies.
