Sudlows appointed for data-centre extension

Sudlows, data centre

Sudlows has been awarded the contract to design and build an extension to the existing data centre of primary-care software provider Egton Medical Information Systems (EMIS). The extended data centre will be the first to use Airedale’s recently launched InRak cooling system. Support will be provided by two Airedale DeltaChill free-cooling air-cooled chillers to achieve an annualised PUE (power usage effectiveness) of 1.3 to 1.4, depending on load.

The design incorporates cold-aisle containment to create low/medium-density pods with a average 7 kW critical load per rack, provided by the latest transformerless UPS (uninterruptible power supply) technology.

EMIS is based in Leeds and holds data for more than 39 million patient records. 53.1% of GP practices in the UK have an EMIS system.

Mike Marchant, data-centre manager with EMIS, said, ‘The design team at Sudlows produced truly innovative designs for our new data centre. Once operational, this extension to our facility will give us the ideal platform to deliver and support our advanced software solutions, including our transformational healthcare system EMIS Web.’
