Black Country plumbers put pressure on darts pro
The Black Country might soon be known as the darts capital of England, according to a popular world champion who was left ‘amazed’ by the standard of amateur players with connections to the building-services industry at a branch opening in West Bromwich. Mark Webster, 2008 world champion and himself a qualified plumber, was the star guest at Pipe Center and Climate Center on Doranda Way, where he threw some arrows to officially unveil the facility.
Underfloor-heating and plumbing specialist Uponor arranged for ‘Webby’ to be at the launch, where he played dozens of customers, some of whom actually beat the world number eight.
Peter Roberts, managing director of Uponor, a key supplier to Pipe Center and Climate Center, and one of Mark Webster’s official sponsors, said, ‘As soon as we heard Pipe and Climate Center was opening its largest outlet, we knew we had to involve Mark in the celebrations.
‘Not only is he a great draw, but the fact that he is a qualified plumber and can confidently speak with authority on plumbing matters means he has a natural rapport with customers.’
Mark added, ‘It’s always great to play non-professionals. I was amazed with the sporting talent across the Black Country and with the number of visitors that gave me a real run for my money.’
