Former home of Manchester’s ‘Blues’ goes green with solar

Jacob Eco-Energy, Solar PV, renewable energy

One of the largest solar-PV installations in Manchester is for a housing development at the former Maine Road home of Manchester City Football Club. It comprises 207 panels installed by Jacob Eco-Energy with an output of almost 50 kW. Installed on the landmark curved roof, the installation is expected to generate 952 MWh of electricity over 25 years and reduce CO2 emissions by 500 t. A financial return of over £434 000 is expected from the Feed-in Tariff.

Maine Place has been developed by Prospect (GB) Ltd, which has opened the first phase of the 300-home development and a new community school. A range of houses and apartments is available for sale.

Chris Franks, managing director of Jacob Eco-Energy, said, ‘This was a major installation, which required our specialist knowledge of construction and roofing structures to carry out the installation. As a City fan, it was a real privilege to be involved in bringing new life to the site of the former stadium.’
