Durapipe pipes up nursing home

Durapipe pipework of various types is used for mechanical services in this nursing home in Reading.

A trio of pipework solutions from Durapipe has been installed in a nursing home in Reading to transport chilled water, hot water for space heating and waste water. Alexandra Place is a modern development of 64 apartments providing high-quality homes for older people with varying needs. It also has an exercise room, hair salon, cafe, therapy suite and activity areas, creating opportunities for residents to socialise with the local community.

Mechanical-services company IDC Southern chose Durapipe systems for their light weight, performance characteristics and ease of installation.

SuperFlo was specified to transport chilled water within the building.

Hot water from the central boiler is piped to each flat using Durapipe’s PVC-c system in sizes from 20 to 80 mm.

Finally, IDC Southern specified Friaphon in sizes up to 110 mm to handle the soil waste water drainage requirements. Tony Wright, mechanical director with IDC Southern, says, ‘Using Friaphon ensured all drainage acoustics were kept to an absolute minimum, while reducing labour time during installation as additional lagging is not required.’

Not requiring lagging and being a push-fit system means that Friaphon has a lower installed cost than cast iron.
