As part of the refurbishment of 1 Bishopsgate in London, a Grade 2 listed building, a Zen air curtain from JS Air Curtains has been integrated into the entrance hall to keep the large reception area warm and minimise heat loss from the entrance. This refurbishment was achieved a Gold SKA rating, and energy savings in excess of 30% have been achieved.

The main heat loss from the entrance hall was through the glass lobby onto the street. The high ceiling called for an air curtain that could easily be suspended above the lobby door and deliver the heat output required to warm the generously proportioned.

Garry Merison, project manager for electrical contractor PIP Electrics, explains, ‘The 1.5 m model provides a heating output of up to 22.5 kW, which is ample in this application. The flexibility of installation with the Zen was a key benefit, as we were able to hang it with drop rods to the required height.

‘We decided that an anodised aluminium fascia would ensure it integrated unobtrusively into the entrance’s environment.’
