University plans £30 m development in Sheffield

Sheffield Hallam University

Sheffield Hallam University has submitted plans for a new £30 million building in the city centre for planning permission. If approved, the building will provide a home for parts of the university’s Faculty of Development & Society and will house the Sheffield Institute of Education, which brings together the university’s teacher education provision and education research.

The building will be seven storeys high in places, with several outside terraced areas. A special ‘toast rack’ bridge based on the classic David Mellor design will connect it to the University Arundel Building.

The development includes a 300+ seat lecture theatre, teaching rooms, learning spaces, staff spaces, cafe and reception. The building is part of a £100 million investment in the estate over three years.
