Sudlows wins university data-centre contract

Sudlows, data centre

Sudlows has won the £2.25 million contract to design and build a new data centre for the University of Portsmouth. The project will involve the migration of the existing data-centre facility from Mercantile House to a new modular facility on campus.

Andy Hirst, global director with Sudlows, explains, ‘The new facility will see the university benefit from a number of technical innovations that will deliver significant increases in energy efficiency and support the university’s plans for technological growth and the growing reliance on IT.

‘Throughout the UK we are seeing major educational institutions looking to update their legacy data centres to benefit from energy efficiency and to provide students and staff with a significantly more resilient infrastructure.

The new building is proposed to be a dedicated facility. It will be modular in construction to allow rapid deployment and flexible aesthetics.’
