Cost-effective LED lighting — Ridi Arktik luminaires in Bath Academy.

Energy-efficient lighting for new teaching spaces at an academy school in Bath is provided by Ridi Arktik-LED luminaires combined with absence/presence detection and daylight sensors. The new classroom wing at Bath Academy adds 10 modern teaching spaces to the facilities.

Consultants at TDP of Chippenham worked alongside ES Electrical of Corsham to install the luminaires to the classrooms, corridors, toilets and external entrance canopy. The luminaires and sensors all link to DALI control gear, which offers a number of pre-set scenes at the touch of a button.

Arktik is one of Ridi’s first luminaires to benefit from an LED upgrade, and the efficient 45 W variation provides an affordable potential LED upgrade for schools, colleges, universities and corporate installations.

These 600 mm-square fittings have a special diffuser to optimise LED technology. New versions in the Arktik range include a reduced-wattage fitting of 45 W and are compliant with the LG7 lighting guidance. With an output of 5200 lm, the project required only eight luminaires per classroom, reducing installation costs and the impact of the LED cost premium.

Mike Attard, managing director of Ridi UK, says, ‘With the influx of cheap LED products to the market, we wanted to be sure we could guarantee our products’ performance, efficiency and longevity. For these reasons, we took measures to produce our own LED boards in house. We now have a product that we can confidently supply to installations such as this one that comes complete with a 50 000 h projected lifespan underpinned by our 5-year warranty. It also means we can easily modify boards for special requirements.’
