Shouksmiths helps refurbish Moorfoot building in Sheffield

Shouksmiths

Refurbishment of Sheffield City Council’s Moorfoot building includes a £2.5 million M&E-services contract awarded to Shouksmiths. This iconic building was previously occupied by the Manpower Services Commission, and the project involves service upgrades to most of the building’s 11 floors, which is being adapted to provide space for the council’s employees. Work started in March and is due for completion in October.

Energy-efficiency measures include new building-management systems on all floors to control the heating effectively. New switches, sockets and light fittings are being installed and the 12 plant rooms upgraded. Ventilation systems are being refurbished in training areas and kitchens to maximise flexibility and efficiency.

Shouksmiths is working for main contractor Henry Boot. The companies have recently completed a number of decent-homes projects in the Yorkshire area and will be working on similar projects during 2013.

Carl Turner, Shouksmiths’ project manager (pictured) commented, ‘We are delighted to be working on the Moorfoot project and continuing our very positive working relationship with Henry Boot. We have a strong track record of this type of work. Whilst there are a number of technical and programming challenges to be met, we are confident that the project will run smoothly and be completed on time and on budget.’
