New chief executive for B&ES — Roderick Pettigrew.

Roderick Pettigrew has been appointed chief executive of the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) following the sudden stepping down of Blane Judd from the position. Mr Judd joined B&ES (then HVCA) as chief executive designate and succeeded to the chief-executive role on 25 July 2011. Mr Pettigrew has served as deputy chief executive since 2008.

During his time with the association, Blane Judd oversaw the successful implantation of the programme which resulted in the B&ES brand replacing HVCA in March 2012. He also contributed significantly to the process of workforce modernisation and reform through the promotion of BESNA (Building Engineering Services National Agreement) as a single employment framework covering mechanical, electrical and plumbing operatives.

He said that following a period of reflection he had decided that the time was right for him to seek a fresh opportunity that would employ his change-management and innovation skills and experience to maximum effect.

B&ES also has a new president, Bruce Bisset of Galloway (Mechanical Services) Ltd, Dundee. He says of Rod Pettigrew’s appointment, ‘Rod has worked closely over the past two years with the office team in developing a vision and strategy for B&ES. I am delighted, therefore, that he will be taking the leading role in its implementation.’

Rod Pettigrew himself says, ‘The continuing recession, technological advances, radical changes in working practices and the imperatives of the low-carbon agenda mean that the industry must be prepared to adapt to the developing requirements of the marketplace. It is essential, therefore, that B&ES members are able to rely on us for the expert advice, guidance and practice support they will required in the challenging days ahead.’
