Skirting heating system responds to emergency in A&E department

Discrete Heat, skirting heating, space heating
Failed underfloor heating in this hospital was quickly replaced by Discrete Heat’s ThermaSkirt skirting heating system.

When the underfloor heating in the A&E department of North Tees hospital failed, a replacement solution was found in the form of Discrete Heat’s ThermaSkirt to provide heating through skirting boards throughout the department with minimum disruption. Richard Speight, senior engineer at the hospital, discounted the replacement of the underfloor system as significant closure periods would have been necessary.

ThermaSkirt is a radiant panel designed to replicated a skirting-board trim. There are no slots and grilles, making it easy to keep clean and help prevent the spread of infection.

There was minimal disturbance to the fabric of the building, and much of the original pipework was retained.

Richard Speight comments, ‘I was impressed with the concept of the ThermaSkirt system from the off, but a bit sceptical it could do the job. Reports from other hospitals gave me the confidence to give it a go, and I cannot tell you what a difference it’s made. The installation of the whole job was done in a few days, and we were back up and running.’
