Sontay delivers sensors for new hospital in Spain

Sontay, control, sensor, BMS, building management system

The new University Hospital Sant Joan de Reus building in Spain is one of the greenest hospitals in the country and has a BMS to aid energy efficiency. The building features an extensive range of building-control peripherals and field device products from Sontay. The system was designed and installed by Controlli Delta Spain and features BACnet protocols.

Sontay products installed include sensors for temperature and humidity in operating theatres, patient wards, treatment rooms and other spaces throughout the hospital. Light-level sensors control the lighting system and ensure it is used only when required. Pressure sensors monitor and control the air-handling units.

The new 93 000 m2 building has 460 beds spread over 322 rooms. There are 12 operating theatres, 98 outpatients and 47 emergency-room beds. There is a teaching unit for up to 600 students.

The technical solution for the BMS is an open system consisting of a set of BACnet controller united under an TCP/IP and SCADA overhead to manage all information, with both drivers as integrated subsystems. The central management system centralises information from virtually all of the centre facilities — air conditioning, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, gas, lifts and energy.
