Golden year for Grundfos

Grundfos Pumps

Grundfos Pumps is marking 50 years in the UK by noting the vast increase in pump efficiency over that time. Our older readers will remember the Beatles topping the charts, Tokyo hosting the Olympic Games (remember the games theme tune ‘Tokyo melody’ by Helmut Zacharias reaching number nine in the UK) and ‘The Fugitive’ on television. Back in the early 1960s, it would not have been unusual for a domestic circulator to consume over 100 W, compared to just 5 W for an equivalent pump today.

The total sales of Grundfos A-labelled pumps from 2005 to 2012 has saved 1.8 GWh a year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 1.1 million EU inhabitants.

Grundfos reminds us that pumps account for 10% of the world’s total electricity consumption and that 90% of all pumps installed today work inefficiently and use too much energy.
