Contributing to the overall performance of the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ One Trinity Square (‘The Green Incubator’) in South Shields are Remeha Quinta Pro boilers to provide space heating. The 3000 m2 development has an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate and was built on a brownfield site for South Tyneside Council.

The development comprises 41 offices, studios, hybrid units and social circulation spaces over three floors.

The two Quinta Pro condensing boilers were specified by M&E consultant Jayne Bainbridge of RPS Group to contribute to the overall efficiency of the building. She explains, ‘The reason we specified Remeha boilers was their low NOx emissions, which ensured we received maximum points for the Pol 4 credit in BREEAM. The low carbon emissions and high energy efficiency of the boilers assisted in the Part L compliance and the high EPC rating achieved by the building.’

Other technologies include 450 m2 of roof-mounted solarPV to provide 20% of the building’s energy requirements, solar-thermal hot water, rainwater harvesting and low-flow sanitary fittings to help reduce water consumption.

The project has won a host of awards. Accolades include the BREEAM National Award for the Best Scoring Office, The Legacy Award for Sustainability at the National Constructing Excellence Awards and Best Large Commercial Building at the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence Awards 2013 Northern Region.

M&E contractor was Castle Building Services.
