Air Design has supplied a bespoke air-handling unit for the busy kitchen of a the Cams Mill food-led destination in Fareham near Portsmouth. The unit can provide 140 kW of cooling and was installed by Corhaven Sheet Metal Fabrications of Poole.

This pub is owned by Fuller, Smith & Turner, an independent traditional family brewer founded in 1845, and has only recently opened its doors to the dining public.

The air-handling unit filters air, which is then heated or cooled by a multi-stage packaged DX (R410A) heat-pump coil before being ducted to the kitchen and preparation areas.

Shaun Roberts, a director with Corhaven, said, ‘It was a challenging project, but with our wide-ranging experience working in various sheet-metal applications combined with Air Design’s extensive knowledge and expertise in air handling, we came up with a solution which met the very specific requirements of the building.

A century ago, Cams Mill was a tidal mill. Water taken from Fareham Creek at high tide was stored in a large pond to power the mill. The mill was pulled down in 1919 and the new pub has been built to give the feeling of a restoration rather than a new-build project.
