Flue-gas heat recovery preheats DHW in new student accommodation
Passive-flue-gas heat recovery from six Remeha Quinta Eco Plus 115 boilers is used to preheat two 2000 l cylinders in new student accommodation at Cardiff University. Talybont Gate has 179 en-suite accommodation units in its six storeys. The heat recovered for this purpose is equivalent to up to 15% of gross input.
The boilers were specified by Nigel Griffin, project engineer at the university. The specification of the Quinta Eco Plus system is an important contributory factor in Talybont Gate’s forthcoming assessment for BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status.
Mr Griffin says, ‘I specified the Quinta Eco Plus at Talybont Gate as an affordable, quality solution for our flagship accommodation to provide reliable, low-carbon, energy-efficient heating and hot water with a rapid recovery time and good financial payback.
These boilers are the latest of many Remeha boilers to be installed at the university. Mr Griffin says, ‘Remeha boilers are popular with our maintenance team as they are familiar products, long lasting, do a good job and are easy to maintain.’
M&E contractor was Lorne Stewart.
