SAV LoadTracker CHP installed in care homes

SAV Systems has supplied LoadTracker CHP units for 15 care-home projects designed and built by Castleoak. As well as facilitating compliance with Building Regulations, these CHP units modulate to maximise run times, maximising cost and environmental benefits. Pictured is Cedrus House care home in Stowmarket, which was designed and built for Care UK.

Alan Kaye, M&E engineer with Castleoak, says, ‘The ability of LoadTracker units to modulate instantaneously is of paramount importance in ensuring efficient performance. It enables the system to track site electrical demand and vary output accordingly so that the electricity generated never exceeds demand.

‘In contrast, units, with a fixed output simply switch off when electrical loads are lower than their capacity, resulting in increased use of expensive mains electricity and back-up heat sources.’

Each LoadTracker CHP unit is remotely monitored by SAV to gather information on key metrics such as run times, which can be accessed by building operators via a secure web portal. The system also provides diagnostics of any faults so that the appropriate corrective action can be relayed to staff on site.

The LoadTracker range has electrical outputs of 2.5 to 6 kW for the smallest unit and 10 to 100 kW for the largest unit. Corresponding thermal outputs are 8 to 13.5 kW and 25 to 200 kW. All units to modulate down to 40 to 50% of their maximum output. Units can be combined in cascade to meet a range of requirements.
