BPMA joins in pressure for action on non-compliant pump imports

Published:  03 March, 2016

The British Pump Manufacturers’ Association has joined forces with Europump and the National Measurement Regulatory Office (NMRO) to press home the need for action in the correct application of the ErP Directive (Energy Related Products Directive). There continues to be evidence, as well as major concerns, regarding illegal pump imports entering the UK , especially from Asian countries, that do not meet the demands of the ErP.

A recent meeting of the three organisations developed a clear understanding of what constitutes standalone and integrated circulators. It was agreed that the majority of products identified by the BPMA were not integrated and, based on information from the web sites of their manufacturers, do not meet the current regulation.

Since the meeting, the NMRO has broadly targeted the market via letter, informing businesses of the UK’s policy decision and that the standalone pumps discussed should not be sold on in the EU. The industry was given three months to ensure they are no longer placing these pumps on the market

The next stage will be for NMRO to investigate pumps where there are suspicions of non-compliance and removing pumps from the market that are found to be non-compliant. The target is to bring a level playing field for business by achieving compliance, and NMRO has sanctions available where necessary and proportionate.
