Reducing the costs associated with ductwork — Kingspan’s ‘white paper’.

A ‘white paper’ explaining how the right specification of ductwork can reduce capital costs and running costs is available from Kingspan Insulation. Its contents are based on two independent reviews by consultants Bucknall Austin and BSRIA. BSRIA compared traditional galvanised sheet-steel ductwork and the Kingspan KoolDuct system of pre-insulated ductwork, which has a patented jointing system that creates a high degree of air tightness. The comparison shows a reduction in fan-energy consumption of 31% in an HVAC system with a flow rate of 7.5 m/s. Reduced air leakage enabled a smaller fan to be used, reducing capital cost by about 10%.
