Heat-recovery unit maintains efficiency at reduced airflow

Ventilation manufacturer Eco-Airvent now has a UK patent for its variable-thermal-mass technology for heat-recovery units, enabling them to maintain thermal efficiency at design and low speed. A 60% turndown of duty airflow can be achieved while maintaining 89% heat-recovery efficiency. This is not normally possible with typical heat-recovery units due to laminar-flow occurring at low velocities in the heat exchanger.

The VHR heat-recovery units that include these heat exchangers offer duties ranging from 40 to 550 l/s.
