Trend shows the way to system integration in German hotel
The integrated control of guest room air conditioning, lighting and fire dampers in this new hotel in Frankfurt is achieved using a Trend system.
To maximise energy efficiency in the new Radisson SAS hotel in Frankfurt, German, the building-management system is interfaced with the front-office computer, the lighting-management system and fire-damper controls. The Trend system was supplied, engineered and commissioned by Stangl GmbH, one of a network of accredited systems integrators that Trend has established in Germany. This 20-storey hotel has 450 bedrooms, conference suite, ballroom and a swimming pool — 18 floors up. Every bedroom has air-conditioning using a fan-coil unit with a LonMark-compliant Trend IQL 15 controller. Room temperature is controlled by modulating the FCU’s heating and cooling valves and controlling its fan speed. Guest have a wall-mounted control panel. When a guest checks in, room temperature is controlled to the occupied setpoint, reverting to setback level on check-out. The hotel’s communication network comprises the IQLs connecting to one of two LonWorks communications busses on each floor, which are then linked to a network running the full height of the building. An Ethernet-based Trend 963 supervisor provides the main operator interface. Also part of the system are a Trend OPC server, and IQ controllers for boilers, chillers and main air-handling plant. Through the 963 supervisor, system control settings can be adjusted and data relating to HVAC plant viewed. Hotel lighting can also be monitored, as can the position of the 610 fire and smoke dampers.
