Rehau insulated polymer pipework replaces steel district-heating pipework in Sheffield

The original steel pipework delivering district heating to two social-housing developments in Sheffield has been replaced with Rehauís Rauvitherm pre-insulated polymer pipework. Sheffield City Council has district-heating systems dating back to the 1970s, and pipework in some of the original networks is in need of renewal.

There had been leaks at both sites in recent years as the pipework had deteriorated, so the council decided to replace to eliminate the risk of further leaks.

Rauvitherm pipework can be supplied in continuous flexible lengths of up to 330 m, so fewer joints are required.

The Sheffield project involved replacing pipe work in two separate networks serving nearly 170 properties.

On one project, all the pipework from the plantroom to individual properties was replaced using a variety of pipe sizes.

Main contractor was Denton & Nickels, with RJ Utility Services as the installer.
