Lindab software designs ductwork accurately and quickly

Ductwork design that matches reality — Lindab’s CADvent system has been successfully used by Michael Williams Engineering on complex projects.
Lindab’s CADvent system for designing ductwork projects and compiling bills of quantities has been successfully using by Michael Williams Engineering (MWE) for a custom-built dust-extraction system for a potato store in Scotland. This software is free to Lindab customers and is based on Autodesk. It is said to enable installers to produce accurate designs much more quickly than using non-specialist packages. The calculation of a complete bill of materials avoids over-ordering or wasteful return trips to the supplier. The dust-removal system required for this potato store was very complicated. Michael Williams says, ‘The plans were drawn up, the airflow and pressure drop calculated, the correct fan was selected, and all the Lindab ducting specified. The drawing was superb. The 3-dimensional presentation was unbelievable — so we priced up the job and sent off our quote.’ The order was received, with the news that the customer was going to arrange his own installation for this difficult project. Among the exacting design requirements were precisely positioned holes for pipe penetrations in 800 mm-thick walls, giving no room for error. Such was the quality of the design, that installation went perfectly, and the system worked well above expectations. The quantities supplied had been exactly right. Encouraged by this success, MWE now uses CADvent for every ductwork project.
