The first company to successfully undergo BESCA’s competent-persons scheme registration criteria is M. D. Enertech Ltd, a design-and-build mechanical-services contractor and a member of the Heating & Ventilating Contractors’ Association. Dave Reynolds, managing director of M. D. Enertech, explains, ‘As an HVCA member and reputable operator, we considered carefully the many competent-persons schemes available in the HVACR sector today. We felt that without doubt, BESCA offered M. D. Enertech the most efficient and user-friendly scheme. It affords us the opportunity to self-certify that notifiable work complies with Building Regulations quickly and simply, online, 24 hours a day — so saving us time, money and, importantly, allowing us to fulfil our statutory obligations under the Building Act. ‘It simply did not make commercial sense to continue to incur the expenses in time and money of submitting a building notice or waiting to use an approved local-authority inspector when, through BESCA, work can quickly and easily be notified.’ Bill Belshaw, chairman of BESCA, says, ‘We are extremely pleased with the response to BESCA from the HVACR industry. BESCA is a transparent, accountable scheme committed to bringing the benefits of self-certification to the sector and providing a service of the highest standard. We are therefore delighted to formally welcome M. D Enertech as our first registrant and look forward to the company registering work online over the coming weeks.’
