Buderus BG162 gas-fired condensing boilers can be connected in cascade to increase output. This installation of six boilers provides 600 kW in a space of 1.5 m2.
Buderus has introduced its GB162 range of commercial, wall-hung gas-fired condensing boilers to the UK. There are two outputs, 80 and 100 kW, and boilers can be combined in a cascade system to provide up to 800 kW of heat, making them a useful solution for replacing out-of-date and inefficient heating technology in applications such as schools, offices and hotels. These boilers can be readily integrated into existing heating systems since they do not require a minimum flow. They can modulate down to 19 kW. They weigh only 70 kg and measure 980 x 520 x465 mm. A separate pump group is supplied as standard. It fits neatly beneath the boiler and includes a modulating pump, isolation valves, built-in thermometer, connections for expansion vessel, pressure gauge and straightforward pipe connections for quick connection to the boiler. A custom-built insulation pack provides a neat and tidy finish. GB162 boilers have a heat exchanger of lightweight cast aluminium silicate, finned for maximum surface area and with a twisted flow channel to create micro-turbulence to maximise heat transfer. The outer surface of the heat exchanger is treated using plasma-polymerisation, which helps prolong its life by preventing dust and particles from combustion adhering to its surface — effectively making the boiler self cleaning. Any combination of up to eight boilers can be connected in line or back to back. Four boilers back to back can provide 400 kW in just a square metre of space. The cascade system consists of a simple, space-saving framework, low-loss header with flow, return and gas pipes and pre-moulded insulation.
