Looking to further develop natural ventilation and lighting — Monodraught’s Terry Payne.
Monodraught, which is well known for its Windcatcher natural-ventilation system and the Sunpipe system for exploiting natural daylight, has been acquired by VKR Holding, previously known as the VELUX Group. The deal is a 100% sale of the shareholding of Monodraught. VKR Holding owns brands such as VELUX roof windows, VELFAC and Rationel vertical windows as well as Window Master automatic window openers and thermal solar companies. Monodraught was established in 1974 under the management of Prof. Terry Payne. He continues as managing director, with the same management team. The aim is to continue the strong growth trajectory in the future. VKR Holding is an international company with Danish roots, and its existing product ranges complement those of Monodraught, which will enable Monodraught to extend its product range to include, for example, technology and control in natural-ventilation systems from WindowMaster. Monodraught’s SunPipe and Sun Tunnel from VELUX have different distribution channels. SunPipe is sold to the commercial market, while Sun Tunnel is mainly sold to the private residential sector. Looking back over the last 30 years, Terry Payne says, ‘We have demonstrated that our Windcatcher natural-ventilation system offers an ideal alternative to traditional air conditioning and mechanical ventilation. Our close dialogue with architects and consultants has meant that our products cater for the natural-ventilation requirement of almost all types of property. ‘With the incorporation of VKR Holding, Monodraught will be in a position to offer an even broader and more comprehensive range of natural-ventilation products — not least through our association with WindowMaster but also with the entire VKR Group.’ Monodraught will also have access to resources that will ensure the sustained development of its activities, particularly in solar-driven products and providing capacity for international expansion.’ Leif Jensen, CEO of VKR Holding, said, ‘We believe that natural ventilation will be increasingly important in future building design. Systems based on intelligent control of natural-ventilation channels, such as windows and ventilation turrets, have evolved into a strong alternative to traditional air conditioning and mechanical ventilation.’
