Hertel streamlines systems for legionella control

Hertel Solutions has speeded up its work in legionella control with a digital pen system that reduces the time for information to reach clients from around a week to just two minutes. It has evolved from a pilot system devised to meet the needs of a legionella-control contract for Sandwell Metropolitan Council. Solutions, the Hertel division that provides services to commerce, industry and local authorities, was working with Sandwell MBC, which was looking for a way to make the process paper free. This led to Hertel’s Digital division being brought in to set up a secure web site to allow online tracking and management of work. Benefits of the system include bar-code reading, integration with risk assessments, seamless communications, no downloading, all information being easily removed and sent to the customer at the end of a contract, automatic non-conformance reporting and tracking of operatives. Paul Walley, mechanical engineer responsible for water hygiene at Sandwell MBS, says, ‘The development of this technology has been a natural evolution of the monitoring and reporting Hertel has done with us since 2002. All of the paperwork we produced needed to be stored digitally, and this has saved us that process — as well as a lot of paper — and, linked to the secure web site Hertel has set up for us, we have quick and easy access to service records, risk assessments and much more.
