Wringing even more heat from domestic combi boilers

zenex
By recovering even more energy from the flue gasses from condensing combi boilers to pre-heat domestic hot water, the Zenex GasSaver reduces annual gas consumption by up to 14%.
The Zenex GasSaver, which recovers heat from the flue of modern condensing boilers, has been added to the list of product types recognised for the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) Rating for dwellings following tests by BRE. A new classification has been created in Appendix Q for passive flue-gas heat-recovery devices, and GasSaver is the only product listed in this section. It is intended to be used in instantaneous combi condensing boilers fuelled by mains gas. Heat recovered from flue gasses is used to preheat domestic hot water. The GasSaver is installed on top of the boiler as part of the flue way and condenses water vapour. Up to 6 l of condensate is stored, and incoming cold mains water passes through a heat exchanger in this store and another in the flue. This water can reach a temperature as high as 80°C and is mixed with cold mains water to reduce the temperature to 30°C before it enters the boiler. Accredited tests in Holland the and UK show an additional gas saving of 7 to 14%. The store of heat in the pre-heated mains water in the condensate store also reduces the amount of water drawn from a hot tap before it is hot enough for the user’s needs. Independent tests have shown savings of some 5% in the annual use of DHW.
