Europe’s largest luxury airport hotel and convention centre, the Sofitel at Heathrow, will make extensive use of fan-coil units from Ability Projects for its air-conditioning requirements. This 5-star hotel is connected to Terminal 5 by bridges and is a £180 million joint venture between Sofitel and Arora Hotels. All 600 bedrooms, 41 meeting rooms, reception, conference hall, cinema and business centre will be supplied with air conditioning by 637 Athena and 160 Titan 4-pipe fan-coil units from Ability Projects. Athena units are purpose designed for hotels and can supply 2.3 kW of cooling and 1.5 kW of heating. Located mainly within bulkheads above room entry doors, they have discharge plena with foam acoustic baffles to limit fresh-air inlet noise to NR29. They have 125 mm fresh-air spigot on the plenum side and flying power leads to assist installation. The Titan units for meeting rooms and other public areas are designed to meet NR30 noise requirements. They are also installed in corridors on bedroom floors, with a NR35 noise specification. They deliver 1.2 kW of cooling and 2.5 kW of heating. The units are being installed by M&E contractor Crown House Technologies of Dartford in Kent.
