Passive ventilation with heat recovery is an eduction in new school

xpelair
By combining passive ventilation with heat recovery, Xpelair’s PassivAir system is reducing energy costs by up to 40% in a new school in London.
Xpelair PassivAir ventilation systems installed in the futuristic new Bridge School in Islington in north London are reducing energy costs by 40% and significantly reducing carbon emissions. All teaching areas were provided with PassivAir for comfort conditions, controlled by carbon-dioxide sensors operating integral motorised dampers. Xpelair products were also used elsewhere in the school, including air-handling units for central systems and KitchenX ventilation for catering facilities. PassivAir makes use of natural-ventilation strategies with heat recovery to extract up to 95% of heat from exhaust warm, moist air and transfer it to incoming air. Richard Scott of Xpelair explains, ‘A typical school with 20 classrooms could realise a saving of 40 000 kWh per annum over mechanical cooling. The installed cost is lower too — typically saving 15%.’
