Add-on approach improves data-centre cooling by 60%

Knurr
Enclosing the cold aisle in a data centre using Knurr’s CAC system can show a 60% gain in cabinet cooling and energy efficiency
The performance of the cooling system in existing data centres can be improved by 60% using a cold-aisle containment system developed by Knurr. This dramatic improvement has been proved in an operating data centre and is achieved by the simple and cost-effective containment of cold aisles, with its associated improvement in the management of the flow of cold air. The cold-aisle containment system is an easily fitted modular addition to any existing mix of cabinet runs in a data centre. By simply preventing the common and increasingly critical problem of hot air from cabinets returning directly back to the cold aisle, significant improvements in cooling and energy efficiency are obtained. The Knurr CAC programme offers a range of fittings to readily provide a fully contained cold aisle. They include transparent top covers, double doors for the ends of aisle, hinged/sliding options and compensations panels to accommodate a varied mix of cabinet heights.
