Vaillant introduces heat-recovery ventilation unit

Energy-saving ventilation for homes — Vaillant’s recoVAIR heat-recovery ventilation unit.
Vaillant’s recoVAIR heat-recovery ventilation unit for domestic applications is claimed to be capable of recovering up to 95% of heat that would otherwise be lost from exhaust air. They have DC speed-controlled fans , which can be matched to ventilation requirements to reduce the need for wasteful and noisy duct dampers. Air passes through the heat exchanger in a counter-flow arrangement, bringing the temperature of the incoming air close to room temperature and reducing the amount of additional energy required. Each recoVAIR system has a summer bypass unit so that summer night-time fresh air can bypass the heat exchanger to provide an immediate cooling effect and precool the building fabric before the next day. The controller has an energy-gain display to show how much energy is being saved in this mode of operation. To assist installers, recoVAIR comes with a multi-sized connection flange that allows up to three sizes of duct to be attached without the need for additional reducers. Vaillant recommends that the air filters are changed at least twice a year, and a filter-service indicator reminds users when the filter requires attention. Filters can be changed by the home owner.
