Fan-coil units meet nanotechnology
The new Mountbatten Building at the University of Southampton has its cooling and heating requirements met by Dunham Bush
Dunham Bush has supplied over 140 Lynx fan-coil units for the new Mountbatten Building at the University of Southampton. They were selected by consulting engineers CH2M Hill for their high performance and compact, discreet design. The 4-storey building houses nanotechnology research facilities and associated offices. The Lynx 4-pipe fan coil units are installed in laboratories, meeting rooms and some offices. There are no false ceilings, so the units are mounted on the underside of the slab. Chilled water is supplied from an absorption chiller which receives heat from the university’s district-heating scheme, supplemented when necessary by a screw-compressor chiller. Additional cooling is provided by fresh air introduced at 8°C, which is recirculated by the fan coils.
