MHI VRF air-conditioning systems deliver comfort for Pullman Fleet Services

Energy-efficient climate control for the head office of Pullman Fleet Services in Doncaster is provided by six energy-recovery VRF systems from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The six systems serve a total of 42 indoor units and were installed by Cool Comfort Airconditioning of Barnsley when attempts to curb high temperatures during hot weather using portable units were not very effective. Pullman occupies a 3-storey building and specialises in fleet management and maintenance for commercial transport operations, including refrigerated vehicles. Cool Comfort installed MHI’s Ecolution KX VRF systems with advanced inverter technology that constantly adjusts output to meet heating or cooling requirements. These systems use R410A and can achieve a COP of up to 4.18. The installation comprises six 2-pipe outdoor units of 40 kW each. Units in individual offices are 1-way or 4-way cassettes recessed into the ceiling. Most units have cooling/heating duties of 9.7 and 11.2 kW, respectively. The large open-plan areas are served by 10 ducted units in the ceiling voids. Each zone has its own temperature sensor, and all units in a zone operate in heating or cooling mode.
