The project is funded by £16 million from the National Lottery. The equipment supplied included gas-fired and hot-water boilers. booster sets, pressurisation units, circulating pumps, pipework, fittings, valves and dry riser equipment. It was installed by Wessex Building Services and is expected to attract more visitors to the centre and increase support for its research centre, which is used by local schools and academics from all over the UK. The museum owns nearly 300 vehicles from over 26 countries.
