Self-testing emergency lighting is put through its paces at athletics centre

Emergency lighting in Lee Valley Athletics centre is tested automatically by P4’s FASTELink M-Web system

P4’s self-testing emergency-lighting system has been installed in one of the UK’s largest and most modern athletics facilities — Lee Valley Athletics Centre in north-east London.

This indoor centre has the only 200 m track in the region, 60 and 130 m sprint straights, permanent seating for 500 spectators and full indoor jumps and throws facilities. There is also a 400 m floodlit outdoor track.

The centre does not have resident maintenance staff and relies on the services of an M&E contractors. The FASTELink M-Web testing system for emergency lighting serves 250 fittings through three collector boxes. Faults can be communicated by e-mail to duty personnel.

Mick Bond, manager of the centre, comments, ‘FASTELink has simplified fault finding. Because the test procedures, such as the weekly function tests and the deep-discharge battery test, are fully automatic, we can run the maintenance operation very efficiently. With FASTELink M-Web software, we receive an individual report on the performance of each fitting, when it last did a self test and a current status report.’
