Sheffield school combines underfloor heating with ground-source heat pumps

Underfloor heating using pipework from LK Systems has been installed in Sharrow School in Sheffield.

Over 11 km of underfloor heating pipe has been installed in Sharrow School in Sheffield. It is supplied by heat pumps drawing energy from the ground via 21 boreholes. The pipe was supplied by LK Systems and installed by Quoin UK.

The school accommodates just over 500 children from pre-nursery age through primary school. It has three floors totalling 2360 m2.

There is a floating screed on each floor, so LK clip rail was installed above the insulation layer to secure the PE-Xa 20 mm pipe at an even depth and predetermined design pattern. Rapid installation was achieved by ‘walking’ the pipe into the clip rail.

To minimise the number of joints, coils of pipe from 75 to 500 m were used, supported by LK manifolds.
