Newcastle VRF air-conditioning installation has 1 MW of cooling

VRF Air-Conditioning system, MHIE

A Megawatt of cooling can be provided by the VRF air-conditioning system that will serve a prestigious office development in Gallowgate, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The MHIE equipment was specified by consulting engineers Hoare Lea, which worked with distributor 3D Air to plan a system that would minimise loss of capacity due to long pipe runs.

The KX4 VRF system selected for the Wellbar Central building consists of 320 indoor units and 18 outdoor units for over 10 000 m2 of floor space. It is being installed by local contractor Hadrian Air Conditioning.

One of the principal reasons for choosing this MHIE equipment was the relatively small loss of capacity with long pipe runs. With distances of over 70 m between indoor and outdoor units, losses of 5 to 6% for the KX4 are said to be around half those of other manufacturers’ systems considered.

Other benefits of the KX4 system include small outdoor units and low noise levels.
