Tranter supplies PHEs for major district-cooling scheme

Tranter International
Seven plate heat exchangers, each rated at 12 MW, have been supplied by Tranter for a district-cooling scheme in Stockholm.

Tranter International has designed and delivered seven very large plate heat exchangers for a district-cooling project being carried out by Fortum in Stockholm. They have a total cooling effect of 84 MW and will help to remove excess heat from IT facilities in a number of commercial buildings and supply district cooling to residential properties in the city.

The efficiency of the scheme is maximised by the heat exchangers achieving their purpose in one pass, thanks to an unusually long thermal length of about 5 m. The primary coolant is seawater, and the entire installation is housed in a 70 000 m3 cavern excavated from the hillside.
