Oventrop helps reduce domestic hot water costs in two new schools

Oventrop
Contributing to the energy efficiency of the hot water supply of this new school in Guildford is the use of Oventrop Aquastrom T multi-function valves.

The energy required to supply domestic hot water for two new schools in Guildford is being reduced using Oventrop Aquastrom T Plus multi-function valves for controlling secondary circulation. As well as controlling temperature and flow, these valves facilitate hydronic balancing.

The valves were chosen by building-services engineers SES for the schools, which are on the same site.

The valves are fitted in the hot-water returns and throttle down to a residual minimum flow to reduce heat loss and the energy required to raise the return water back to flow temperature. As soon the water in the return pipe cools to a preset temperature, usually 57°C, the valve opens to allow more flow, eliminating cold dead legs and the risk of legionella growth.

These valves can also be used to automatically pasteurise the system when the water temperature is raised above 70°C.

The schools are Pond Meadow, a Surrey County Council school for special educational needs accommodating about 70 pupils up to 19 years old, and Christ’s College, a Church of England aided school.
