Carrier wins grand prize at Monza

14 000 spectators at the Monza Grand Prix circuit in Italy can enjoy motor racing in air-conditioned comfort following the installation of 190 hydronic cassettes supplied by Carrier — without increasing the installed chiller capacity. They have been installed in the 600-seat press room, hospitality areas and associated glass-enclosed grandstands, which together cover some 4500 m2. Two existing Carrier chillers installed in 1990 have been retained as part of the new installation. They are used in an unusual manner to minimise power consumption at times when the limited electrical supply is required by the influx of television broadcasters. The chillers cool 2000 t of water to 4°C in the days leading up to the Grand Prix. The water is stored in a buffer tank. This approach enables existing cassettes and air handlers to cool 10 000 m2 during the Grand Prix without increasing power consumption at critical times.
