Rob’s engineered for success

Studying for a Level One NVQ in engineering at Solihull College through CTC Kingshurst’s Academy’s link project has led to 16-year-old Rob Gardiner securing a 4-year apprenticeship with NG Bailey. He has been studying at the college’s Woodlands Campus since he was 14. The link project gives pupils in years 10 and 11 the opportunity to study a vocational subject at college alongside the core subjects they study at school.

Rob Gardiner is delighted: ‘I didn’t expect to find such a good job so soon after leaving school. It will give me the chance to travel across the county doing a line of work that I enjoy, while learning more about the industry. I’d like to thank everyone at my school and at Solihull College who have supported and encouraged me throughout.’

He may even work at Solihull College, as NG Bailey has been awarded a £5.2 million control to provide M&E and IT communication technology services for the development of its new campus, which is due for delivery by January 2011.
