Underfloor heating is integrated into a structural floor for housing development
One of the first installations of Timoleon’s Toron combined underfloor heating and flooring system is for a project in the Channel Islands. Strawberry Fields is a large new domestic property built for private owners at St Helier in Jersey. Underfloor heating was a natural choice for the spacious rooms, and, working with local heating specialist Aston Services, Timoleon has developed solutions to match the floor constructions at differing levels throughout the building.
Toron combines a floor deck with underfloor heating in a single, structurally loaded entity. It is said to be the only structural underfloor reheating system to pass tests to the requirements of EN1195 at TRADA (Timber Research & Development Association).
Hot water is supplied by a 14 kW air-source heat-pump linked to a thermal store. The specially developed control system has programmable touch-screen thermostats and floor temperature probes in each of the 11 zones. All the thermostats are linked via a wiring centre to a master central touch pad for networking.
The Toron system was selected for the upper two storeys to provide the structural floors and underfloor heating without reducing the ceiling heights of the rooms. The installation at Strawberry Fields using high-performance Toron, with a 100 mm aluminium strip above each pipe to boost performance by 10%. Once the pipe has been fitted and pressure tested, it can be covered by 6 mm plywood or a wood floor fixed directly to the Toron chipboard modules.
On the ground floor, Timoleon pipework is integrated into the screeded concrete floors using Metis ClipPlates.
