FETA president warns against price pressures

Paul Wenden, president of the Federation of Environmental Trade Associations, has warned that pressure on prices will not deliver a sustainable future. Speaking at the association’s annual lunch, he said, ‘The “race to the bottom in price” mentality won’t deliver a sustainable future, but we must be aware that this is the prevailing environment we are continuing to face.’

He believes that the Energy Using Products Directive provides an effective approach to cost reduction. ‘Coming from a manufacturing background [with Flakt Woods], I appreciate the benefit of extending the market for a standardised product range as wide as possible — as this helps drive out cost and waste wherever it is not required.

‘The opportunity to help determine such legislation is achieved through FETA, so all members, large and small, can have a collective voice, be aware of what is coming and act accordingly.’

He also stressed the need for continuing to invest in research and development to develop new products and solutions.
