Modern HVAC services have been installed by Flakt Woods to bring this 100+ year old swimming pool in Ipswich up to modern standards.

As part of a fast-track refurbishment and modernisation scheme at Fore Street Swimming Pool in Ipswich, Flakt Woods was awarded a contract by ISG Jackson via Ipswich Borough Council to install a new HVAC system. It is one of the oldest operational pools in the country and first opened in 1894 and was closed for 12 weeks during the project.

The new installation includes an air-handling unit and smoke-extract plant, with all equipment supplied in kit form because of site restrictions.

Flakt Woods site services also supplied and installed a full range of ductwork to swimming-pool specifications, bringing the environment for swimmers and spectators up to modern expectations.

Andrew Knight, service manager for Flakt Woods, says, ‘Energy-saving technology in the new HVAC system will ensure energy is recovered whenever possible, helping to save public money and carbon emissions.’

Fore Street is the first pool to be regenerated under a £4 million investment plan in local swimming facilities, which the council, under its Team Ipswich banner, is using to promote the town and its impressive leisure amenities to international teams requiring a training base for the 2010 Olympics.
