BT to role out Sabien’s M2G boiler load optimiser

Sabien’s M2G boiler load optimiser is to be installed in all suitable buildings in BT’s estate of 7500 buildings, following extensive pilot trials. Jeff Nash, head of sustainable estates with BT, explains, ‘BT has a clear focus to reduce its energy consumption by 80% by 2016 in the UK. To help it achieve this target requires innovative solutions from suppliers to help save energy. Sabien delivered on our expectations and will have a continuing role to play in supporting BT in these plans.’

M2G is an intelligent boiler load optimiser that improves boiler efficiency by preventing ‘dry cycling’, a problem with over 80% of commercial boilers. It can integrate with existing building-management systems.

The device will be retrofitted to boilers and monitor flow and return temperature every 10 s. The M2G determines whether the temperature falls are caused by genuine heating demand or from standing losses — in which case the boiler will be prevented from firing.

This approach to preventing dry cycling results in no changes to set points and has no effect on room temperatures.
