Plastics pipework system shows its benefits in apartment development

Durapipe, Friatherm, pipework
Hot and cold water services in the apartment development in east London are provided by Durapipe’s Friatherm pipework system

Durapipe’s Friatherm pipework has been used for the domestic hot and cold water requirements of an apartment development in east London as part of the regeneration of the Lea Valley area. Riverside Works is a 6-storey apartment building designed in a Z shape straddling a central courtyard on the bank of the River Lea in Fish Island. It comprises 2- and 3-bed apartments and stands on the historic industrial space around Hackney Wick.

As part of the development, heating and plumbing contractor JG Oliver & Son was looking for a reliable and cost-effective pipework solution and turned to Durapipe. Friatherm pipework in sizes from 20 to 160 mm was specified to transport water from the main storage tanks in the basement to the stop tap in each apartment.

Friatherm was selected for its quick and easy installation technique and its cost effectiveness compared to copper. This plastic pipework system resists corrosion and the formation of limescale. It has a 50-year working life and can be installed without hot works.
