Toshiba launches new VRF air-conditioning system

Toshiba, VRF, air conditioning

Toshiba’s latest VRF air-conditioning system, the SMMS i, permits considerably longer pipe lengths and height differences than the previous SMMS system. The maximum piping distance between indoor and outdoor units is now 235 m (compared with 175 m before). The maximum height difference between indoor and outdoor units is 70 m (previously 50 m) and between indoor units is 40 m (30 m previously).

There are five outdoor units with cooling capacities from 22 to 45 kW and heating from 25 to 50 kW. Up to five units can operate in multiple to create cooling/heating systems of up to 135/150 kW.

The smallest outdoor unit (8 hp) has a COP of 4.52 at full load and 6.41 at 50%, with an outdoor temperature of 7°C and 21°C indoors. The two largest units (14 and 16 hp) have three high-efficiency DC twin rotary compressors, each of which can be controlled by a separate vector control inverter with Toshiba proprietary technology.
