KNX integrator installs Jung KNX system in its own new building

The capabilities of Jung KNX intelligent building controls are being exploited in its own new building by KNX integrator Discovery Systems.

KNX integrator Discovery Systems has specified a Jung system throughout its new premises in Rainford, Merseyside. Discovery Systems has moved to a new 2-storey business unit, Lords Fold, and was able to specify its own intelligent building-control systems. The Jung KNX system that has been installed throughout the premises can demonstrate to customers the flexibility and functionality that a KNX intelligent building can offer — and deliver maximum energy efficiency.

The system has been designed with future flexibility in mind, enabling Discovery Systems to adapt the building’s intelligent controls in line with its changing needed and advancing KNX technology.

The premises comprise open-plan office space, workshop, stores and a rest room. In the office area, a KNX and DALI lighting control solution uses a central weather station to enable daylight harvesting, so electric light is used only when natural light cannot achieve 450 lx at desk level.

The lighting-control system also uses presence detection, wall switching and scene control. Information from the weather station is used to control curtains and blinds.

The whole system is linked using the Jung Facility Pilot, which allows central control, monitoring and visualisation of the lighting, blinds, and HVAC systems on a touchscreen panel.

The company expects to save 40 to 60% of the electricity that would otherwise be used for lighting by exploiting daylight and also reduce the use of the cooling system by around 30% by reducing solar gain by controlling curtains and blinds.
